2000+ participants in 1 month with 1 facilitator & great feedback – how do you do it?

In 1 month, I hosted 10 webinars with up to 330 people in each one and got feedback like “I was really impressed with your facilitation of the webinar last week, both in managing your various presenters, talking to the people in the group – numerous as they were, and in explaining to people how the technology worked.  It was brilliant.”

I believe people are ready for webinars, why?  Well we have seen huge growth in the numbers of people choosing to participate in webinars often booking out all the places.

Less time out of the office, informative and helpful, cost effective as no travel time, easy access to presenters, and bonuses like webinar recordings all mean that webinars should be in the mix of what you do.

With a word of warning because if you are presenting webinars you need to do them really well.

How do you ensure conference success?

Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook 2013-14 – priorities, new initiatives and reductions

The Coalition’s priorities are reflected in today’s Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook 2013-14 (17.12.13) including:

  • Agriculture – water infrastructure; Indonesia/Australia Red Meat and Cattle Partnership
  • Defence
  • Gas
  • Indigenous Australians
  • Infrastructure package (focus on land) via a partnership with the private sector, including tourism projects, regional and community infrastructure and a national 1 stop shop for project approvals
  • Manufacturing – self-sustaining exporters
  • Medical (limited – internships)
  • Mining

Skills for All Future Directions – what’s new or different?

Latest announcements (13.12.13) from the South Australian state government include:

Training courses will be ranked according to their industry demand and projected job openings.

A sliding scale of Government subsidy will be applied to courses with higher subsidy support for courses that address skills shortages and lead to employment.

This price banding will be more responsive to the changing needs of the economy, jobs market and provide greater certainty for the training and skills industry.

Industry groups and training providers told us they wanted to see less reliance on reducing enrolments through caps and move to a price banding model to better target training.  (Source: Skills for All Newsletter)

Skills for Jobs 2013 – The Training and Skills Commission 5-Year Workforce Development Plan launched

In the setting of the Adelaide Zoo, The Training and Skills Commission launched Skills for Jobs: Five-Year Workforce Development Plan, detailed over two volumes and with a summary of a forward agenda for 2014.

Following an address from Minister Tom Kenyon, Commission chair Adrian Smith and Commission members Dr Michael Keating AC, Prof John Buchanan and Lindsay Palmer JP, spoke to different aspects of the plan with a Q & A panel  to conclude the formal part of the morning.  This format was an improvement on the 2012 event where the audience didn’t really get to hear much about the content of the plan.

With a focus on the implementation of Skills for All by the State Government, the Commission outlined recommendations to the Minister in the following areas:

Skills Tasmania takes an evidence based approach to workforce priorities and funding

Colleagues from Tasmania are working away in a practical, pragmatic way to identify workforce priorities and training needs for the state and to influence national programs and initiatives.  Whilst new evidence is being collected through consultations and forums, Tasmania’s current approach to priorities for training and workforce development are outlined here.

Upcoming Employer of Choice events build upon the work Skills Tasmania has been doing engaging workforce planning and development practitioners and Registered Training Organisations in workforce development as well as promoting good practice by employers.  In fact, both Skills Tasmania and TasTAFE have taken up the challenge to lead practice by demonstrating the importance of workforce planning and development for their workforce.

Skills in the Workplace with far more flexibility benefits SA based workforces

The Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) is advertising a redesign of the Skills in the Workplace (SitW) employer/enterprise & industry association program to up-skill existing workers in areas of critical skill need.

This will mean much more flexibility and I believe an evidence based approach to workforce development strategies.

Applicants will have a month to submit applications.  This round of applications will open at 9am, Monday, 14th October and close at 5:00pm, Monday 11 November 2013.

The program redesign is aligned to a number of cross-government strategies including the new South Australian Government’s, employment strategy , the Seven ‘7’ Strategic Priorities inclusive of Growing Advanced Manufacturing, and the Manufacturing Works Strategy. Read More

Jobs and Skills Policy launched in South Australia – based on workforce demand from whom?

Premier Jay Weatherill has launched a Jobs and Skills Policy to address issues in the state economy and a rise in unemployment with a number of existing components re-packaged and a couple of new areas.

There are 7 programs as part of the plan for Building a Stronger South Australia:

  1. Local Government Stimulus program – to bring forward ‘shovel ready’ projects into the next six to 12 months. The initiative will be available to all Local Government Areas.  NEW
